About Me

I appreciate you taking the time to learn a little more about me, and I hope to have the honor of working with you in the near future.  Below you will find information about my therapeutic approach, my education and experience, and some of my personal experiences and interests. I have also listed some of my affiliations.

My Therapeutic Approach

I experience life as a mysterious journey with many unexpected twists and turns. I view the healing process as an important part of that journey, one that can bring meaning and understanding to those experiences which have significantly impacted our lives.  My desire as a therapist is to partner with you to bring the gift of hope as you address the areas of your life you would like to change.

I know that deep healing is both possible and achievable. This conviction comes from my work with clients and from my own personal experience. In a comfortable and supportive atmosphere, I offer you an integrative, personalized approach that heals the kinds of wounds that often hinder people from moving forward. When this healing takes place, you will more naturally see new options and begin to make more positive life choices that will be reflected in all of your relationships. During the healing process I also support you in developing your strengths, pursuing life goals, and attaining the overall growth you desire.

I am a very interactive therapist, and my treatment approach depends on the needs of each client. I draw on family of origin and systems theory, as well as cognitive, behavioral, solution-focused therapy, and a faith-based approach when appropriate. I am also a personal and professional coach and utilize coaching principles as needed.

My Education and Experience

I am a Licensed Mental Health counselor (LH60158757) and a Certified Professional Coach in the state of Washington. My formal education includes a Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology from Northwest University, a Masters in Business Administration from Simmons College, and a Professional Coaching Certification from the Academy for Coach Training.

My counseling career began in 2003 at a crisis pregnancy center where I provided intervention and counseling for teens and young adults who were facing the challenges of unplanned pregnancies. Later I worked in a behavioral health hospital providing support to inpatient psychiatric patients of all ages and in a community mental health agency counseling children, adolescents, and adults. I joined Northwest Family Life in 2006 as the Managing Director and counselor.

I am now a full time counselor in private practice and a domestic violence treatment provider at Northwest Family Life. As you have read in my previous pages, my counseling specialty is in the area of trauma, with a focus on treating women who have experienced childhood sexual abuse and/or domestic violence and issues relating to both. You may be intimately familiar with the long-term and profound impact of early sexual trauma or domestic violence. I understand this healing journey and would be honored to accompany you wherever you are on your path.

Personal Experiences and Interests

My favorite activities are spending time with God, hiking, watching movies, having dinner with friends, dancing, and exploring the inner landscape of life. I am passionate about personal growth and development. Throughout my life I have explored the depths and heights of the human condition and bring all of that experience to my work with clients. My own personal exploration allows me to accompany clients wherever they need to go as they move through the myriad complexities of the change process. Being involved in the learning and growth of others is one of the most gratifying experiences I know.
